Dress of the Day

Isaac Mizrahi for Target Silver and White "Bollywood" dress, $44.99 (only available online) I've seen a version of this dress in pink and gold in the stores, but was really taken by the silver and white combo when I saw this online. You could say it goes along the lines of the "ethnic" prints that are in vogue right now without being too obvious and trendy in a this-dress-will-age-badly kind of way. (Also, can I just say, I hate how so much is lumped into the term "ethic" it's kind of gross to me in a sociological kind of way, but I digress. I mean, what is non-ethic?) It's also available in black and gold, and while it looks as though the pink and gold one is no longer available online, I've seen it floating around various stores.

The first range seemed to be shooting for more of a "mod" look with its color blocking and neon colors. Some might have found those less than accessible, as that collection offered interesting silhouettes, but ones that might not have fit most body types. This new collection, however, looks a lot more promising and a lot more accessible, especially for summer. Prices range from $14.99 to $44.99, with lots of great casual, though fashion-forward pieces for summer. Here's the rest of preview for the collection. I particularly like the black ruffle skirt with white trim, the orange and white striped dress, the navy ruffle front dress, and the button tank top that can work as a vest or as a swimsuit cover up. I'm looking forward to this one, and I'm totally going to be using the $15 gift certificate I never sent to my friend for her wedding I could not attend almost two years ago...whoops! So...what's your opinion on this collection? Love it? Hate it? Undecided?

Converse One Star at Target

I love me some Target. This, despite working there for two years when I was 16-18 (thanks for the Team Member Scholarship btw, HOLLA). If anything, I've only grown to like it more as it's become more fashionable. Not that this blog has been around that long yet, but in its time I've given a lot of attention to the Go International lines, but the Converse One Star line has kind of gone under my radar...until today. During my lunchbreak I wandered in and saw the cute red baseball tank pictured, and lo' it was on clearance for $10.98. I snagged it and look around some more. These are just some of the cute items available for women. A number of items are on clearance right now and totally appropriate for spring and summer wear, so if you're looking for some relaxed weekend casual, you might want to check it out (also, really cute swimwear!) Rogan for Target

Looks I was wrong earlier about the Rogan GO International collection for Target being swimwear only. How was I proved wrong? Oh, by previews of the collection, a sample of which you can see above, and the rest which you can preview at Target's Pressroom. About the collection: The Rogan for Target collection exudes a beach safari vibe, using nature’s own beauty as inspiration for patterns and colors on relaxed silhouettes. Zebra and leopard prints give basic tees, tanks and dresses an effortlessly edgy look. Target Designer Update

Target is on a roll with lining up designers for its GO International and accessories collections. A quick round up: Rogan Gregory will be doing a line for Target...but it will only be swimwear. Expect that this summer. If you're looking for a more expansive GO collection, you'll have to wait for Richard Chai (who has designed for Marc Jacobs and is known for his minimalist style) whose Target line will premiere in August 2008. And what ho? Looks Target, after working with Rafe, Devi Kroell, Loffler Randall, and (next up) Gryson, has now tapped Monica Botkier to design some handbags. (The bags pictured are Botkier, but NOT Botkier for Target.)

Subversive for Target

Dominique Cohen’s jewelry collection is leaving Target and following in its footsteps will be a jewelry collection by Subversive. All jewelry for Subversive is designed by Justin Ginunta. The collection will be available from Target stores and from Target’s website from March 23 through July 20, 2008. Prices will range from $14.99 to From Target’s Pressroom Release: "The Subversive for Target collection plays on the idea that more is more, and each piece is designed with a concept behind it, so it is both visual and thoughtful. This collection includes an eclectic mix of charm bracelets, delicate drop earrings and bold multi-color block necklaces. Key pieces include the jeweled locket fringe necklace, the tri-strand faux pearl necklace and the red butterfly brooch cuff bracelet. "Justin Giunta designs each unique piece of Subversive jewelry and has worked in different mediums over the past five years, ranging from painting, fashion, industrial design and jewelry, to create work that sits on the continuum of fine art and commercial design. Jovovich-Hawk for Target

The fuller preview for the Jovovich-Hawk line for Target’s GO International line is out, and after the earlier preview which I kind of liked, I now am in full like and possibly, love mode. The clothes from this collection look much more accessible than the last collection from Erin Fetherston, and they look comfortable, too! I like the flowy, bohemian inspired designs that don’t veer too much into a hippy-dippiness, and I like that they look like clothes you can wear everyday, if it’s out to a party or running errands. It's accessible without being boring. The line also includes a couple of swimwear pieces (and swimwear cover-ups). To see the full line up, visit Target’s pressroom website Of course, it will come down to the quality of the pieces when you see them in person, but because a lot of these items seem to be cotton and meant to be cool and casual, I have higher hopes than I’ve had in the past. A few of the items that look really cute are linen, however, so those will especially be a test, but for now, what is your opinion on this line now that you can see the fuller preview?

Gray Ladies

Gray is the “in” neutral for the season. Because it’s a neutral too, it’s great for basic pieces that will likely last longer in your wardrobe rotation than say, that cantaloupe colored trapeze dress. The grays vary from the matte to the silver gray. C'est Target

Despite working there as a cashier and Food Avenue employee from the age of 16 to18, Target wasn’t able to beat the love out of me for their stores and their goods. In fact, it seems like they’re getting better with each passing year, and more fabulous as well. Their GO+International line has been tapping many up-and-coming designers for fresh and fashionable. Right now the Libertine line is still in stores, and in fact, as I was just at one an hour ago, I noticed that Libertine is now on clearance, making ready for the new GO+International line by Alice Temperly (however, Libertine doesn’t seem to have been marked as clearance yet on the website). They’ve now also tapped Jovovich-Hawk (a dress for their 2006 designer line pictured above) for a clothing line, Loeffler Randall for accessories, (which, while I like the design, I hope that they look better in person and that the weird shine that’s making it look cheap is just really horrible lighting), Hollywould is also tapped for accessories and shoes, and right now you can get designer jewelry by Dominique Cohen (necklace pictured).
